CASE STUDY

Group HR Reflection.

The Challenge:

HR Professionals, whether working in organisations or as independent consultants, commonly experience isolation in their work. This may be caused by being the only HR resource in their businesses, the need to maintain confidentiality and, increasingly, the consequences of holding stresses, including, uncertainty for others in their businesses. Often HR professionals feel that they have no-one to talk with.

These feelings were shared by individuals who joined an HR Reflection group.

The Process:

The four group participants did not know each other well. The session ran for 90 minutes.

We spent the first twenty minutes on introductions, before each of the participants shared an area for reflection. These included:

  • Building trust with other

  • Dealing with hostile discriminatory behaviour

  • Managing a job-sharing arrangement

  • Achieving a better work/life balance

I introduced different techniques for building confidence and deepening individual understanding, through reflection.

The Outcome:

Participants commented that they found it helpful to work through their own issue and to contribute their support to others.

Participants asked to join similar groups on a regular basis.

  • “It was really valuable to see how, with the right facilitator, everyone can contribute something in a coaching/reflective style.”

  • “Steve is a fantastic session leader – highly professional, respectful and personable. He made me feel very comfortable sharing an issue, seemed to get everyone connected, and built instant trust amongst all attendees.”
